Hong Kong LUXE
"HONG KONG LUXE" Impresses Buyers, Media at New York's Olympus Fashion Week
NEW YORK, (February 17, 2004) - Nine of Hong Kong's celebrated designers, including Arthur Lam, Blanc de Chineand sister label Bleu de Chine, Dorian Ho, Flora Zhang Tian Ai, Harrison Wong, Hidy Ng, Michael Hui, Miggy Chengand Simone Ng took New York Olympus Fashion Week by storm as the Hong Kong Trade Development Council hosted its annual fashion show at Bryant Park.
Interest in the Hong Kong show has been increasing from season to season. Buyers from Bloomingdales, Macy's and Macy's West, Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Dillards and JP & Associates dominated the front row with note pads in hand. Backstage was a media circus as camera crews and reporters from the likes of Style Network, Harper's Bazaar Japan, BBC Business and the New York Post, to name a few, jockeyed among garment racks, dressers and make-up artists in order to catch a moment with each designer.
The one trend that unites all nine designers is the East meets West fusion distinctive to Hong Kong. Bright reds with gold stitching, Mao collars and fur trimmed jackets, and Asian fabrics combined with western patterns dominated the runway. The result: a unique blend of Asian culture infused with Parisian ideals and New York sensibilities. For earlier press releases, please click http://www.tdctrade.com/hkluxe/.
